The Chemin de Croix, or Way of the Cross, is a powerful outdoor pilgrimage route located on the wooded slopes of Espelugues Hill, just above the Sanctuary of Lourdes. This devotional path retraces the final hours of Jesus Christ through 14 stations, each marked by striking iron sculptures created by the artist Raffl. The sculptures are life-sized and expressive, set against the natural beauty of the hill. Walking the route is a meditative experience, with each station offering a place to pause and reflect. The path is lined with trees and benches, and the sound of birdsong often accompanies the journey. The final station culminates at a large crucifix, from which visitors can look out over the sanctuary and the Pyrenean foothills. Many pilgrims complete the route as an act of faith, but it is also open to visitors seeking a peaceful walk in a serene setting.
