Salle de l'Échiquier is a remarkable medieval room located in the ducal palace of the Château de Caen. Built in the 12th century, it served as the treasury and administrative center for the Dukes of Normandy. The chamber features a stunning vaulted ceiling and ornate columns, reflecting Romanesque architecture. Today, it is part of the Musée de Normandie, housing exhibitions on regional history. Visitors can admire the original stonework and imagine the bustling activity of medieval officials. The room's name, meaning 'Exchequer Room,' refers to its function as a counting house.
