Cathedral Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, also known as Ajaccio Cathedral, is a striking Baroque church built in the 16th century. Located in the old town near the port, it serves as the seat of the Bishop of Ajaccio. The cathedral's façade is elegant with a bell tower, and the interior features ornate decorations, marble altars, and a notable organ. Historically, it was the baptism site of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1771, and several members of the Bonaparte family were buried here before their remains were moved. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, hosting regular masses and concerts. Visitors can admire the serene atmosphere, religious art, and the baptismal font where Napoleon was christened. Its central location makes it an easy addition to any walking tour of Ajaccio.
