Market Square (Kauppatori) is the beating heart of Turku, a lively open plaza flanked by neoclassical buildings and the iconic Swedish Theatre. The square is dominated by the Turku Market Hall (Kauppahalli), a red-brick building from 1896 filled with stalls selling fresh fish, local cheeses, berries, and artisan foods. Outdoors, farmers and vendors set up tents selling seasonal produce, flowers, and handicrafts. The square also hosts festivals, concerts, and the Christmas market. It's the perfect spot to soak up local life, grab a coffee, and watch the city go by.

Don't miss

  • Browse the Turku Market Hall for local delicacies like smoked fish, reindeer meat, and fresh pastries.
  • Visit the outdoor market for seasonal berries, flowers, and handcrafted souvenirs.
  • Admire the Swedish Theatre and other historic buildings surrounding the square.
