The Narva Hydroelectric Station is a monumental industrial landmark built in the 1950s as part of the Soviet Union's post-war reconstruction. Located on the Narva River, the plant harnesses the river's flow to generate electricity, and its striking architecture, a blend of Stalinist neoclassicism and functionalism, makes it a photographer's dream. Guided tours take visitors inside the turbine hall, where the roar of machinery is deafening, and up to the control room with its vintage dials and levers. The station's dam also creates the Narva Reservoir, linking the two attractions. It's a fascinating glimpse into Estonia's energy history and Soviet engineering.

Don't miss

  • Tour the turbine hall and see the massive generators up close.
  • Visit the original control room with its retro Soviet-era equipment.
