The Edfu South pyramid is one of seven small step pyramids built during the 3rd Dynasty, likely under Pharaoh Huni or Sneferu. Unlike the great pyramids of Giza, this structure is modest, made of rough stone blocks and rising only about 5 meters today. It originally had three or four steps. Its purpose remains uncertain, possibly a royal cenotaph or a symbol of the king's authority in the provinces. Visitors can see the pyramid's core and some remaining casing stones, set in a quiet desert location south of Edfu.
