Tortuguero village is the main settlement in the region, nestled between the Caribbean Sea and Tortuguero National Park. Visitors arrive by boat or small plane, then explore the village's sandy streets lined with eco-lodges, sodas (local eateries), and souvenir shops. The village serves as the launch point for guided boat tours through the park's intricate canal network, where howler monkeys, caimans, and colorful birds are commonly spotted. During nesting season (July–October), guided night walks reveal sea turtles laying eggs on the beach. The laid-back Caribbean vibe and lush surroundings make it a unique base for nature immersion.
