Dr. Archie Carr Wildlife Refuge, named for the pioneering sea turtle biologist, safeguards a critical nesting beach for green and leatherback turtles. The refuge encompasses a stretch of Caribbean shore and adjacent lowland forest. Visitors can join guided night patrols to witness turtles nesting (seasonal) and visit the small museum with interactive displays on turtle biology and conservation. The refuge's calm waters and dark beaches provide essential habitat, and the on-site research station contributes to global sea turtle studies.
