Tahai is a beautifully restored ceremonial complex just a short walk from Hanga Roa, featuring three ahu (platforms) with moai, including the only moai with reconstructed eyes. The site offers a glimpse into ancient Rapa Nui rituals and daily life, with remnants of boat-shaped houses. It's renowned as the best sunset viewing spot on the island, where the moai silhouette against the Pacific Ocean creates an unforgettable scene. The grassy area is perfect for picnicking and reflection.
Don't miss
- Photograph the moai with reconstructed white coral and red scoria eyes at Ahu Ko Te Riku.
- Watch the sunset from the grassy area in front of the ahu.
- Explore the remains of ancient hare paenga (boat-shaped houses).
