The complete package - delicious, creative, and great value to boot. Not content to show their whole hand on their printed menu, little treats in between courses delight the taste buds and build momentum throughout the prix fixe meal. Dishes are universally knockout, the veal tongue and duck breast with peach being my personal favourites. Normally, I leave discussions of ambiance and service to others and focus purely on the food, but the experience at Barbara was so nice that I feel like I ought to talk about it a bit. The restaurant is tiny, and seated at the “bar” it’s almost to impossible to ignore the smooth plating, mixing, and tight kitchen choreography on display. Enjoyable conversation with the people behind the counter is unavoidable and adds greatly to the intimacy of the meal. Oh, and the drinks are superb too - get the spicy one. A must try.
Dinner @barbararestaurant * was a delightful experience, where every detail was crafted with care and precision. The fresh, high-quality ingredients were the stars of each dish, bringing out vibrant flavors that danced on the palate. The host greeted warmly, and throughout the evening, the chef, sous chef, and sommelier were impressively attentive, each making sure everyone felt pampered. The dinner began with an amuse-bouche that set the tone for what was to come, followed by an intriguing Beef Tartare that captivated my palates. The surprise of the evening was the crispy aubergine drizzled with honey, a delightful contrast of textures, beautifully complemented by a spicy chermoula from Tunisia and an assortment of fermented vegetables. The next course brought forth a robust Veal Tongue, rich in flavor, leading into the highlight of the meal-a perfectly cooked, intense Duck dish that left us in awe. To cleanse our palates, we ended with a refreshing Blueberry Granita, each bite a burst of icy, fruity goodness. Throughout the evening, the dishes were paired with a natural local Pinot Grigio and a full-bodied Pinot Noir, enhancing every flavor and making the experience truly unforgettable.
We definitely enjoy trying tasting menus in different cities and countries, and love sitting at the kitchen counter to watch the dishes prepared. We just weren't wowed at Barbara like we were hoping to be, especially given the Michelin star. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food was tasty. We ate at 4 Michelin-starred restaurants during our long weekend visit, and this was in our bottom 2.
This place is absolutely amazing. The food definitely lives up to the reputation. The service is unreal and everything we had for food was so good. We definitely recommend checking out this spot out.
