The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi (Igreja de São Francisco de Assis) is one of Brazil's most celebrated Baroque churches. Designed by Aleijadinho, the legendary sculptor and architect, its facade features a stunning soapstone portal and a circular window. Inside, the church is a treasure trove of Aleijadinho's work, including the intricate wood carvings on the altars and the painted ceiling by Manuel da Costa Ataíde. The church was built between 1766 and 1794 and remains a testament to the artistic genius of its creators.
