Vijećnica, Sarajevo's City Hall, is a masterpiece of Austro-Hungarian architecture completed in 1896. Designed by Alexander Wittek, it blends Moorish and Byzantine styles with vibrant colors and ornate details. The building served as the city hall until 1949, then as the National and University Library. During the 1992-1995 siege, it was shelled and burned, destroying thousands of books. Painstakingly restored, it reopened in 2014, now symbolizing resilience. Visitors tour grand halls, view exhibitions, and learn about its dramatic history.
