The Schipdonk Canal, also known as the Leopold Canal, is a straight, tree-lined waterway that runs from the port of Zeebrugge through Blankenberge and into the polder landscape. The canal is flanked by well-maintained paths popular with cyclists, joggers, and walkers. The route offers a mix of urban and rural scenery: near Blankenberge, you'll pass small marinas and bridges, while further out the surroundings open into wide fields and grazing pastures. The canal is also used by pleasure boats and fishing enthusiasts. Benches along the way provide spots to rest and watch the water traffic. The flat terrain makes it accessible for all fitness levels, and the paths are clearly signposted. It's a favorite local route for a leisurely afternoon outing.

Don't miss

  • Cycling the full length of the canal from Blankenberge to the countryside
  • Watching boats navigate the locks and bridges
  • Picnicking on the grassy banks near the Blankenberge marina
  • Spotting water birds such as swans, coots, and ducks along the canal
