St. Charles Borromeo Church is a stunning Baroque church in Antwerp, famous for its ceiling painting by Peter Paul Rubens. The church was designed by the Jesuits and built between 1615 and 1621, with Rubens contributing not only the ceiling but also the altarpieces. The interior is a masterpiece of Baroque splendor, with marble columns, gilded stucco, and a dramatic play of light. The ceiling painting, 'The Assumption of the Virgin', was destroyed by fire in 1718 but was replaced by a copy. Despite this, the church retains its original grandeur. Visitors can also see the beautiful confessionals and the organ. The church's location near the Meir shopping street makes it a convenient stop.
