MuseumsQuartier

The MuseumsQuartier is an arts and culture complex in Vienna's 7th district, opened in 2001 on the site of the former imperial court stables. It combines historic Baroque buildings with contemporary museum architecture and houses major museums, exhibition spaces, dance and children's culture institutions, artist studios, restaurants, and public courtyards used for events and festivals. With around five million visitors annually, it is one of the largest arts and culture complexes in Europe and serves as a prominent public meeting place in central Vienna.

Know before you go

• All entrances to the complex are wheelchair accessible, either step-free or by elevators. Accessible restrooms, disabled parking spaces, and wheelchair rental are available at MQ Point.
• The complex houses 61 cultural institutions, including major museums, exhibition halls, performance venues, and children's culture spaces.
• The central courtyards are open around the clock and are freely accessible public spaces.

A bit of history

The site was originally the imperial court stables, housing up to 600 horses and 200 carriages. The stable buildings were later used for trade fairs and exhibitions before being redeveloped as a cultural complex. Renovation began in April 1998, and the MuseumsQuartier opened in stages in June and September 2001.
