Schwarzsee (Black Lake) is a small, peat-stained lake just 2 km from Kitzbühel town. Its dark water, caused by surrounding peat bogs, heats up quickly in summer, making it one of the warmest swimming lakes in the region (up to 27°C). The lake is surrounded by a scenic walking path (about 3 km) through meadows and forest, ideal for a leisurely stroll or jog. There are designated swimming areas with grassy banks, a lido (Strandbad Schwarzsee) with changing facilities, and a restaurant. In winter, the lake sometimes freezes and is used for ice skating. The area is also a starting point for hikes to the nearby Kitzbüheler Horn. Birdwatchers will spot various waterfowl, including swans and ducks.
Don't miss
- Swim in the warm, dark waters of Schwarzsee
- Walk the 3-km lakeside trail
- Relax at the Strandbad lido with sunbathing lawns
- Enjoy a meal at the lakeside restaurant
