The Goldenes Dachl, or Golden Roof, is Innsbruck's most famous landmark, located in the heart of the old town. Built in the early 16th century for Emperor Maximilian I, this ornate balcony was used as a royal box for watching tournaments and festivals in the square below. Its roof is covered with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles that shimmer in the sunlight. The balcony features intricate frescoes and reliefs depicting imperial scenes. Visitors can view the exterior at any time, and the attached museum provides insight into the city's history and the emperor's legacy.
