The Court Church (Hofkirche) in Innsbruck is a must-see for history and art enthusiasts. Its centerpiece is the magnificent cenotaph of Emperor Maximilian I, a marble and bronze monument surrounded by 28 larger-than-life bronze statues of his ancestors and heroes. The church itself is a Gothic hall church, but the Renaissance artistry of the tomb steals the show. Visitors can also see the Silver Chapel with its ornate altar and the organ loft. The atmosphere is solemn and awe-inspiring, with the statues seeming to guard the empty tomb (Maximilian is actually buried in Wiener Neustadt). The church is part of a complex that includes the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum, making it easy to combine visits.
