Altmünster is a picturesque village nestled on the western shore of Traunsee, just a short distance from Gmunden. Its centerpiece is the historic parish church of St. Benedict, which dates back to the 15th century and features a striking Gothic spire. The village offers a lovely lakeside promenade lined with trees, benches, and small cafes, perfect for a leisurely stroll with views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. A public lido (bathing area) provides access to the clear waters of Traunsee during summer. Altmünster retains a relaxed, authentic Austrian character, with traditional houses and a quiet atmosphere that contrasts with the busier Gmunden. It's an ideal spot for a peaceful afternoon by the lake, a swim, or a coffee with a view.
