The Gosauseen are a trio of stunning glacial lakes nestled at the base of the Dachstein mountain range, just a short drive from Filzmoos. The lakes, Vorderer Gosausee, Hinterer Gosausee, and the smaller Gosaulacke, are famous for their vivid turquoise color, which contrasts dramatically with the surrounding limestone peaks. The area is a paradise for hikers, with well-marked trails circling the lakes and leading up to viewpoints like the Gosaukamm. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the Vorderer Gosausee (about 1.5 hours) or tackle more challenging routes to the Hinterer Gosausee. The reflection of the Dachstein in the calm waters is a photographer's dream, especially at sunrise or sunset. The lakes are also a starting point for climbing the Dachstein via the nearby cable car.

Don't miss

  • Walking the circular trail around Vorderer Gosausee
  • Photographing the turquoise waters with Dachstein backdrop
  • Hiking to Hinterer Gosausee for a quieter experience
  • Taking the cable car from nearby to the Dachstein glacier
