The Dachstein glacier is one of Austria's most accessible glaciers, located on the Dachstein massif near Filzmoos. It is a year-round destination for skiing, snowboarding, and glacier hiking, with snow-covered slopes even in summer. The glacier is reached by cable car from Ramsau or Obertraun, ascending to over 2,700 meters. At the top, visitors can enjoy the Dachstein Skywalk, a thrilling viewing platform that juts out over the abyss, and the ice caves, which reveal stunning ice formations. The glacier's stark white expanse contrasts with the surrounding limestone peaks, creating a dramatic landscape. It is also a vital water source for the region and a site for climate research. Whether you come for winter sports or summer sightseeing, the Dachstein glacier offers a unique high-alpine experience.
