The Wreck is a famous surf spot in Byron Bay, created by the remains of the SS Wollongbar, a ship that sank in 1921. The wreck lies just offshore, shaping the seabed to produce a reliable, hollow left-hand break that attracts experienced surfers. Visitors can watch surfers from the beach or join them in the water, with the wreck's structure visible at low tide. The site is also popular for snorkeling, offering glimpses of marine life around the submerged steel hull.
Don't miss
- Surf the consistent left-hand break shaped by the SS Wollongbar wreck
- Snorkel around the wreck site to see marine life and the submerged hull
- Watch surfers from Main Beach, especially during a southerly swell
