The Old Ghan Heritage Railway and Museum is situated at the original Alice Springs railway station, which served as the terminus of the narrow-gauge Ghan line from 1929 until 1980. The museum preserves the history of the railway that connected the outback to the south, featuring restored steam and diesel locomotives, passenger carriages, and freight wagons. Visitors can walk through the station building, see the original ticket office, and view exhibits on the challenges of building the line through desert and flood country. The highlight is the chance to explore the trains up close, including the iconic NSU class steam engine.
