The Ghazni Minarets are two stunning 12th-century towers, all that remains of a once-grand mosque complex built during the Ghaznavid era. Standing about 20 meters tall, they are masterpieces of medieval Islamic brickwork, adorned with elaborate geometric star patterns and bands of Kufic calligraphy. Visitors can walk around the bases to admire the intricate detailing up close, and see how the towers have weathered centuries of conflict and neglect. They are iconic symbols of Ghazni's golden age.

Don't miss

  • Study the intricate geometric brick patterns that cover the entire surface
  • Read the Kufic inscriptions that include Quranic verses and the names of Ghaznavid rulers
  • Photograph the towers against the dramatic Afghan sky at sunset
