Mineirão is a large football stadium in Belo Horizonte, owned by the state of Minas Gerais and used by Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. It hosted matches during the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and the 2016 Summer Olympics football tournaments. The stadium has a seating capacity of 66,658 spectators.

The project to build Mineirão began in the 1940s when local teams' stadiums could not hold more than 10,000 spectators. Construction started in 1959, and the stadium opened on 5 September 1965 with a match between the Minas Gerais state team and River Plate. The record attendance was 132,834 people in 1997 for a Campeonato Mineiro final between Cruzeiro and Villa Nova.
