Trillium Gap Trail is a popular hiking path in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, known for its destination: Grotto Falls. The trail begins near the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and follows a gentle grade through old-growth forest, crossing several small streams. After about 1.3 miles, hikers reach Grotto Falls, a 25-foot waterfall that cascades over a mossy cliff. A distinctive feature is the trail passing directly behind the falls, offering a cool mist and a unique perspective. The trail continues beyond to Mount Le Conte, but the falls make a perfect turnaround point for a shorter hike.

Don't miss

  • Walk behind Grotto Falls for a refreshing mist and unique view.
  • Hike through old-growth forest with towering hemlocks and rhododendrons.
