Cloud Gate, affectionately known as 'The Bean', is a monumental public sculpture by Anish Kapoor in Millennium Park. Its seamless, mirrored surface warps and reflects the city's skyline, clouds, and visitors, creating surreal photo opportunities. The sculpture's underside, called the 'omphalos', offers a funhouse-like distortion. It has become a beloved symbol of Chicago, drawing millions annually to touch its cool, polished surface and capture its ever-changing reflections.
Don't miss
- Walk underneath the sculpture to see the distorted reflections in the 'omphalos'.
- Visit at sunrise or sunset for dramatic light reflections on the surface.
- Touch the seamless stainless steel, it's polished to a mirror finish with no visible seams.
