A bit of history

The square occupies the site of the former Duke of York's Headquarters, a military building constructed in 1801 for the Duke of York. The building later became a school and was eventually converted into the Saatchi Gallery in 2008. The square itself was redeveloped in the early 2000s as part of a regeneration project.
