Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, also known as Al Bastakiya, is one of Dubai's oldest residential areas, offering a rare glimpse into the city's pre-oil past. Nestled along Dubai Creek, this compact quarter features narrow lanes flanked by traditional wind-tower houses built from coral, gypsum, and palm wood. Today, the neighborhood has been carefully restored and repurposed into a vibrant cultural hub. Visitors can explore art galleries, museums (including the Coffee Museum and the Dubai Museum in nearby Al Fahidi Fort), and quaint courtyard cafes. The area is pedestrian-only, making for a peaceful stroll away from the city's modern bustle. Distinctive elements include the wind towers (barjeel), which provided natural air conditioning, and the intricate wooden latticework on doors and windows. The neighborhood also hosts the annual Sikka Art Fair and cultural events. It's a photographer's delight, especially in the early morning or late afternoon light.

A bit of history
Al Fahidi dates back to the early 1900s when Dubai was a fishing and trading port. It was built by wealthy Persian merchants from the Bastak region of Iran, who brought the wind-tower design. In the 1970s, the area faced demolition but was saved by Prince Charles's intervention and later restored by the Dubai Municipality.
