Rumeli Fortress

Rumeli Fortress, also known as Rumeli Hisarı, is an imposing medieval fortress located on the European shore of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul. Built by Sultan Mehmed II in just four months in 1452, it was constructed to control the narrow waterway and prepare for the conquest of Constantinople. Rumeli Fortress was built by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1452, prior to the conquest of Constantinople. It was constructed in a record 4 months with the labor of thousands of workers. The fortress, along with Anadolu Hisarı on the Asian side, allowed the Ottomans to control the Bosphorus and cut off supplies to the Byzantine capital.
