The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) in Taichung’s West District is Taiwan’s first and only national-grade fine arts museum. It covers 102,000 square meters, including a public outdoor sculpture park, making it one of the largest museums in Asia. The museum focuses on modern and contemporary Taiwanese art, with 16 galleries across a four-story building.

A bit of history
The museum opened on 26 June 1988 as the Museum of Art under the Taiwan Provincial Government. It closed in 1999 for renovation after damage from the 921 Earthquake and reopened in July 2004. It was later renamed the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and placed under the Ministry of Culture, becoming Taiwan’s first national-grade fine arts museum.
