Many of these structures are raised on stone pillars (mazots) to protect grain from rodents. Walking along Hinterdorfstrasse feels like stepping back in time, with flower-boxed windows, cobblestones, and the constant presence of the Matterhorn looming above. The lane is particularly photogenic in the early morning or late afternoon when the light casts long shadows.
