Calanda (mountain)

Calanda is a distinctive mountain massif rising to 2,805 meters (9,203 feet) just east of Chur, providing a dramatic backdrop to the city. It is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with a network of hiking trails that wind through alpine meadows, rocky ridges, and forests. The most popular route is the Calanda Höhenweg, a ridge trail that offers breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley and the surrounding peaks. In summer, wildflowers carpet the slopes, while autumn brings golden larches. Paragliders launch from the mountain's flanks to soar over the valley. The summit rewards hikers with a 360-degree panorama that includes the Bernina Range and the Glarus Alps. For a less strenuous experience, the Calanda cable car (from Felsberg) takes visitors partway up, where a restaurant serves local specialties.
