Plaza Nueva is a grand neoclassical square in the heart of Bilbao's Casco Viejo. Built in the 19th century, it is a perfect example of Bilbao's urban elegance, with uniform arcaded buildings surrounding a spacious central plaza. The square is a social hub: on Sundays, it hosts a lively flea market (El Rastro) where you can find antiques, books, and collectibles. On other days, the arcades are filled with pintxo bars and cafes, making it a popular spot for a midday snack or an evening drink. The square is also used for concerts and festivals, especially during the Aste Nagusia (Great Week) celebrations. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with benches and trees providing shade. It's an ideal place to people-watch and soak in the local vibe.
