Cabo Girão is a dramatic headland on Madeira's south coast, rising 580 meters above the ocean. Its main attraction is a glass-floored skywalk that juts out over the abyss, offering vertigo-inducing views straight down to the sea and the small farming plots (fajãs) at the cliff base. On clear days, the panorama stretches from Funchal to the western coast. The site also has a small café and souvenir stalls, making it a popular stop for coastal drives.

Don't miss

  • Walk onto the transparent skywalk for a thrilling view of the ocean far below.
  • Photograph the tiny terraced fields (fajãs) cultivated on the cliff's ledge.
  • Scan the horizon for views of the Desertas Islands on clear days.
