Opened in 1906, Dunedin Railway Station is a masterpiece of Flemish Renaissance design, featuring a striking façade of dark basalt and white Oamaru stone. Inside, the foyer boasts a floor of 750,000 Royal Doulton porcelain mosaic tiles, while a stained-glass window depicts a steam locomotive. Though no longer a major passenger hub, the station houses the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame and is a starting point for scenic train journeys like the Taieri Gorge Railway.
