Istanbul Archaeological Museums

The Istanbul Archaeological Museums are a trio of museums located in the Eminönü district, near Topkapı Palace. The complex comprises the Main Archaeological Museum, the Museum of the Ancient Orient, and the Tiled Kiosk Museum. Together, they hold over a million objects spanning millennia, from the ancient Near East to the Ottoman Empire. The Main Museum's neoclassical building showcases Greek and Roman statuary, sarcophagi, and the famous Alexander Sarcophagus (actually depicting Alexander the Great's battles). The Museum of the Ancient Orient features Hittite reliefs, the Treaty of Kadesh (the world's first peace treaty), and Babylonian artifacts. The Tiled Kiosk, a 15th-century Ottoman pavilion, displays exquisite İznik ceramics and Seljuk tiles. The gardens are dotted with ancient stone carvings, offering a serene setting. 역사 이야기

Founded in 1891 by the Ottoman archaeologist Osman Hamdi Bey, the museum was one of the first modern museums in Turkey. Its collection grew from imperial excavations, including the Sidon necropolis, which yielded the Alexander Sarcophagus.
