St Mark's Basilica

산 마르코 대성당은 베네치아의 정신적 중심지이자 비잔틴 건축의 눈부신 예입니다. 광장에 다가서면 다섯 개의 돔과 화려한 정면이 빛을 받아 내부의 장엄함을 암시합니다. 내부로 들어서면 벽과 천장은 8,000제곱미터가 넘는 금바탕 모자이크로 덮여 성서의 장면을 묘사하며, 이 세상 것이 아닌 듯한 광채를 발합니다. 바닥은 대리석과 유리로 된 모자이크로, 수세기 동안의 발길에 의해 물결 모양으로 울퉁불퉁해졌습니다. 팔라 도로(Pala d'Oro)를 놓치지 마세요. 금, 에나멜, 보석으로 장식된 멋진 제단화이며, 보물실(Treasury)에는 콘스탄티노플에서 가져온 유물과 보물이 보관되어 있습니다. 위층 박물관에서는 모자이크를 가까이서 볼 수 있고 산 마르코의 원래 청동마상도 전시되어 있습니다. 대성당은 여전히 예배가 이루어지는 장소이므로 경건한 복장이 필요합니다.

역사 이야기

The first church on the site was built around 829–836 to house the relics of Saint Mark, brought from Alexandria by Venetian merchants. That church was damaged by fire in 976 during a popular uprising and was repaired. The current building was begun around 1063 under Doge Domenico I Contarini. Over time, the original brick façades and interior walls were embellished with precious stones and rare marbles, many of them spoils taken from Constantinople after the Fourth Crusade. The four ancient bronze horses placed over the entry were among the plundered artefacts.
