Trajan's Column

트라야누스 원기둥은 다키아 전쟁(101~106년)에서 거둔 트라야누스 황제의 승리를 기념하기 위해 서기 113년에 세운 뛰어난 개선 기념물입니다. 원기둥은 높이가 약 30미터(98피트)이며, 전투와 건설, 의식 장면을 보여 주는 나선형 얕은 부조가 기둥 몸체를 23바퀴 감고 있습니다. 원래 꼭대기에는 트라야누스의 동상이 있었지만, 오늘날에는 성 베드로상이 서 있습니다. 부조는 로마의 군대 생활과 공학 기술을 세밀한 시각적 이야기로 전합니다. 원기둥은 비토리오 에마누엘레 2세 기념관 인근 트라야누스 포룸에 있으며, 주변 광장이나 가까운 박물관에서 가장 잘 볼 수 있습니다.

역사 이야기

The column was probably constructed under the supervision of the architect Apollodorus of Damascus at the order of the Roman Senate. It was completed and dedicated on 12 May 113 AD. After Trajan's death in 117, his ashes and those of his wife Plotina were placed in golden urns inside the column's base. The statue of Trajan that originally topped the column disappeared in the Middle Ages. On December 4, 1587, Pope Sixtus V crowned the column with a bronze figure of Saint Peter, which remains today.
