Theatre of Marcellus

마르켈루스 극장은 로마에서 가장 잘 보존된 고대 극장 가운데 하나로, 테베레섬 인근 유대인 지구에 자리합니다. 율리우스 카이사르가 건설을 시작하고 아우구스투스가 기원전 13년에 완공했으며, 최대 20,000명의 관객을 수용할 수 있었습니다. 오늘날 높이 솟은 아치와 기둥은 로마 공학 기술의 뛰어남을 보여 줍니다. 건물 일부는 꼭대기의 궁전을 포함한 후대 중세 건축물에 편입되었습니다. 방문객은 외부를 따라 걸으며 도리스식, 이오니아식, 코린트식으로 이루어진 3개 층의 아치를 볼 수 있습니다. 내부는 일반에 공개되지 않지만 여름에는 야외 콘서트가 열립니다. 주변에는 레스토랑이 많아 활기차며 포르티코 도타비아 유적도 가깝습니다. 콜로세움과 비슷한 건축 분위기를 더 한적하게 즐길 수 있는 곳입니다.

역사 이야기

Space for the theatre was cleared by Julius Caesar, who was murdered before construction could begin. It was completed in 13 BC and formally inaugurated in 12 BC by Augustus, named after his nephew Marcus Claudius Marcellus. The theatre fell out of use in the early 4th century and served as a quarry. In the Early Middle Ages it was used as a fortress, and later the Savelli held it in the 13th century. In the 16th century, the residence of the Orsini, designed by Baldassare Peruzzi, was built atop the ruins.
