Old New Synagogue

신구 회당은 1270년경 완공되어 현재까지 사용 중인 유럽에서 가장 오래된 회당입니다. 고딕 건축은 인상적인 다섯 갈래의 볼트 천장, 중앙 기둥, 그리고 별도의 여성석을 특징으로 합니다. 전설에 따르면, 랍비 유다 뢰프가 생명을 불어넣은 프라하의 골렘(점토 생명체)이 다락방에 보관되어 있다고 합니다. 방문객들은 토라 보관함과 독서대를 포함한 중세 내부를 볼 수 있으며, 이 지속적인 영적 중심지에서 수세기 동안 이어진 유대교 예배의 무게를 느낄 수 있습니다.

방문 전 알아두기

• The synagogue follows Orthodox custom, with separate seating for men and women during prayer services. Women sit in an outer room with small windows looking into the main sanctuary.
• Nine steps lead from the street into a vestibule before entering the main sanctuary.
• The attic, where legend says the body of a Golem lies, is not open to the public. The lowest three meters of the stairs to the attic have been removed.

역사 이야기

Completed in 1270, it is the oldest surviving medieval synagogue of twin-nave design. It was originally called the New or Great Synagogue; after newer synagogues were built in the 16th century, it became known as the Old-New Synagogue. A legend says angels brought stones from the Temple in Jerusalem to build it, on condition they be returned when the Messiah comes.
