Peggy Guggenheim Collection

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is an art museum on the Grand Canal in Venice's Dorsoduro district. It is housed in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an 18th-century palace that was the home of American heiress Peggy Guggenheim for three decades. The museum displays her private collection of modern art, including works by Italian futurists and American modernists, in genres such as Cubism, Surrealism, and abstract expressionism.

A bit of history

Peggy Guggenheim began displaying her collection to the public seasonally in 1951. After her death in 1979, the collection passed to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which opened it year-round from 1980. The museum has since expanded its gallery space, including the addition of the Nasher Sculpture Garden in 1995.
