Sirenuse

The Sirenuse (also known as Li Galli) are a small archipelago of three granite islets in the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 3.5 kilometers from the coast of Sorrento. The islands, Gallo Lungo, La Castelluccia, and La Rotonda, rise dramatically from the sea, covered with Mediterranean scrub and surrounded by crystal-clear waters. According to Greek mythology, these were the abodes of the Sirens, enchanting creatures whose songs lured sailors to their doom. Today, the islands are a protected marine area and a haven for seabirds. While the largest island, Gallo Lungo, has a private villa (once owned by dancer Rudolf Nureyev), the others remain uninhabited. Boat tours from Sorrento or Positano offer close-up views and opportunities for swimming in the pristine waters.
