Selskar Abbey is a partially ruined medieval abbey situated in the heart of Wexford town, near the Westgate Tower. Founded in the 12th century by the Augustinians, it played a significant role in the religious and civic life of medieval Wexford. The site features the remains of the abbey church, including a striking east window and parts of the cloister. Visitors can explore the atmospheric ruins and see the 18th-century bell tower, which was added later. The abbey is also notable as the place where the Treaty of Wexford was signed in 1169, marking the beginning of Norman involvement in Ireland. Today, it is a peaceful spot for reflection and a must-see for history buffs. The adjacent park offers a green space to relax after exploring.
