A bit of history
Built in the early 14th century as part of Munich's fortifications, Sendlinger Tor was originally a defensive gate. It was rebuilt in the Gothic style after a fire in 1429, and later renovated in the 19th century. The gate gave its name to the surrounding district, Sendling.
