The Hamburg Rathaus is a magnificent Neo-Renaissance building completed in 1897, dominating the Rathausmarkt square. Its ornate façade features 20 statues of German emperors, and the 112-meter tower offers panoramic views of the city and Alster lakes. Inside, visitors can explore lavish halls like the Great Hall (Großer Festsaal) with its huge murals, the Senate Chamber, and the intricate arcaded courtyard. The building is still the seat of Hamburg's Senate and Parliament, so parts are off-limits during sessions. Guided tours provide insight into the city's history and architecture. The Rathaus is a symbol of Hamburg's wealth and civic pride, and its central location makes it a perfect starting point for exploring the Altstadt.
