Tour Royale

Tour Royale is a massive round tower built in 1514 under King Louis XII, marking the beginning of Toulon's evolution into a major military port. Perched on the waterfront at the entrance to the harbor, the tower was part of a defensive system to protect the anchorage. Today, it stands as a well-preserved historical monument, open to the public. Visitors can climb to the top for sweeping views of the Mediterranean, the naval base, and the city skyline. Inside, the tower houses exhibits on its construction and the history of Toulon's port, including models and artifacts. The thick stone walls, gun embrasures, and vaulted chambers evoke its martial past. The site is often less crowded than other attractions, making it a peaceful spot for history buffs and photographers.
