The Fondation Louis Vuitton is one of Paris's most striking modern buildings, a billowing 'cloud of glass' designed by Frank Gehry, rising from the greenery of the Bois de Boulogne. Twelve vast curving glass sails enclose a contemporary art museum funded by the LVMH luxury group, hosting blockbuster exhibitions of modern and contemporary art alongside a permanent collection. The architecture is the headline: terraces and walkways weave between the glass sails, giving unexpected views over the park and across to La Défense and the Eiffel Tower.
It's a destination for the building as much as the art, even visitors who skip the galleries climb the multi-level terraces for the spectacle of Gehry's structure and the city views. A little out of the centre, it pairs with the adjoining Jardin d'Acclimatation and a wander in the Bois de Boulogne.
Don't miss
