The Ancient Theatre of Fourvière is a remarkably well-preserved Roman theater perched on the Fourvière hill, offering panoramic views of Lyon. Built around 15 BCE, it is one of the oldest Roman theaters in France. The site originally seated up to 10,000 spectators and was used for dramatic performances and public gatherings. Today, it is a major cultural venue, hosting the Nuits de Fourvière summer festival with concerts, plays, and dance. Visitors can walk through the tiers of stone seats, explore the stage area, and imagine the spectacles of ancient Lugdunum. The adjacent odeon (smaller covered theater) is also visible.
