Saint Martin's Church (Église Saint-Martin)

Saint Martin's Church is the largest religious building in Colmar, a Gothic masterpiece built primarily between 1234 and 1365. Though officially a collegiate church, its size and grandeur earn it the nickname 'cathedral.' The exterior features a striking octagonal tower and a richly sculpted portal. Inside, the nave soars with ribbed vaults and slender columns. The choir houses 14th-century stained-glass windows depicting saints and biblical scenes. The organ case, carved in the 18th century, is a masterpiece of Baroque art. Visitors can also see the 15th-century fresco of the Last Judgment and a series of Renaissance tapestries. The church is active, so services and concerts occasionally take place. The surrounding square is a lively gathering spot with cafes and markets.
